When you look at the family tree the name first shows up in Limburg, when the Netherlands was part of Austria. A certain Schrijnen was a military commandor for Count nouailles, who was in the court of Emperor Joseph II from Austria. The name of the first Schrijnen in the Netherlands shows up on a deed of sale for a house in Maastricht.

We know that members of the Schrijnen family in Venlo had many public functions like, Mayor, Alderman. There were also a number was important roles in the church. Mgr Laurentius Schrijnen was bishop in Roermond and his brother Mgr Prof. Dr Jos Schrijnen was founder of the Catholic University of Nijmegen. Their brother P.Schrijnen, my grandfather was a pharmacist. He died young. Mgr Laurentius became my father Pierre Schrijnen’s guardian.
There were many pharmacists in the family. His grand-father Adriaan Schrijnen and his father also were pharmacists. My grandfather had the largest pharmacy in Amsterdam and became the President of the Association of Pharmacists in the Netherlands. Pierre’s uncle Denis and his son Pierre Antoon were pharmacists as was his brother in law Ignacius in Oldenzaal. My sister Trees and my father also took a diploma in Pharmacy. Pierre was born on 16th May 1899 in Amsterdam, the youngest of 7 children. His parents were Pierre Schrijnen and Alida Stallinga.
